Abstract
Objective: The aim of this research was to formulate and evaluate an herbal lip balm incorporating carrot extract (Daucus carota). The formulation was intended to provide adequate moisturization, nourishment, and protection to the lips from dryness and environmental factors. Methods: The lip balm was prepared using natural base materials such as beeswax, cow ghee, and coconut oil through the melting method. Carrot extract was incorporated slowly with continuous stirring to ensure even distribution throughout the formulation. The developed product was assessed and compared with a marketed lip balm using various evaluation parameters including physical appearance, color, odor, melting point, spreadability, pH and skin irritation. A comparative study was performed to determine its effectiveness relative to the commercial formulation. Results: The formulated lip balm showed desirable characteristics such as a smooth texture, uniform consistency, and a pleasant fragrance. It demonstrated good spreadability and appropriate melting point. The formulation effectively improved lip hydration and softness without causing any irritation. Comparative analysis revealed that the prepared product exhibited satisfactory performance similar to the marketed lip balm. Conclusion: The study concludes that the herbal lip balm containing carrot extract is a safe and effective formulation for lip care. The presence of natural antioxidants and vitamins enhances its protective and nourishing properties, making it a promising alternative to synthetic lip care products.
