Abstract
Katuki (Picrorhiza kurroa Royle ex Benth.) is an important ingredient used in several classical herbo-mineral formulations described in Rasa Shastra for the management of Kushtha, RaktaDushti, Yakrit Vikara, and metabolic disorders. In Rasa Shastra, the drug is valued for its Pittarechaka, Deepana, Pachana, and RaktaPrasadana properties, which help in enhancing the efficacy of mineral preparations and facilitating Dosha Shodhana. Formulations such as Arogyavardhini Vati and other Kusthaghna Yogas utilize Katuki as an important component for correction of Agni, elimination of vitiated Pitta-Kapha, and purification of Rakta.
The present review highlights the significance of Katuki mainly from the Rasa Shastra perspective, emphasizing its role in herbo-mineral preparations, therapeutic utility in Kushtha Chikitsa, and its contribution in detoxification and metabolic correction.
