Abstract
Avipattikara Churna is a classical Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation widely used in the management of Amlapitta, Agnimandya, constipation, and various gastrointestinal disorders. Standardization and quality evaluation of Ayurvedic formulations are essential for ensuring safety, efficacy, and reproducibility. The present analytical study was conducted on Avipattikara Churna manufactured by Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab. The formulation was subjected to physicochemical, microbiological, heavy metal, aflatoxin, pesticide residue, and chromatographic analysis in an approved laboratory. Organoleptic evaluation revealed a characteristic brown colored powder with acceptable physical properties. Physicochemical parameters such as loss on drying (3.08%), pH value (4.53), total ash (2.59%), water-soluble extractive (50.27%), and alcohol-soluble extractive (14.60%) were found within acceptable limits. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) analysis showed characteristic Rf values of 0.58, 0.80, and 0.85 indicating the presence of phytochemical constituents. Heavy metal analysis confirmed that lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury were within permissible limits. Pesticide residues and aflatoxins were below the limit of quantification, indicating safety of the formulation. Microbiological studies showed absence of pathogenic organisms including E. coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The analytical findings support the quality, purity, and safety profile of Avipattikara Churna and emphasize the importance of standardization in Ayurvedic pharmaceutical preparations.
