Abstract
Ayurveda, the ancient Indian holistic health system, has gained global attention for its natural and preventive treatment methods. Churna, a fine powdered form of herbs, is a widely used dosage form in Ayurvedic medicine, traditionally employed for gastrointestinal disorders, detoxification, and systemic health support. Despite its therapeutic value, traditional Churna preparations face several challenges, including poor flowability, moisture sensitivity, inconsistent dosing, and difficulty in scaling up for industrial production. This study focuses on the development of a modern granular Churna dosage form, using Triphala Churna as a model formulation. Triphala, consisting of Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), is a renowned Rasayana with antioxidant, digestive, and immunomodulatory benefits. By applying pharmaceutical granulation techniques, the powdered Churna is transformed into uniform, free-flowing granules with enhanced stability, palatability, and dosage accuracy. The granular form overcomes the limitations of traditional powders, improves shelf life, and aligns with global pharmaceutical standards, making it suitable for modern healthcare systems. Standardization parameters such as organoleptic properties, chemical composition, chromatographic profiles, and microbial limits were evaluated to ensure quality, safety, and efficacy. This fusion of classical Ayurvedic wisdom with modern pharmaceutical technology presents a patient-friendly and commercially viable herbal dosage form.
