Abstract
Transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) have gained increasing importance in the field of pharmaceuticals due to their potential to provide controlled and sustained release of drugs with improved patient compliance and reduced side effects. This review offers a comprehensive exploration of TDDS, covering the principles, components, and formulation strategies involved in their development. We delve into the intricacies of skin anatomy and physiology as they relate to drug permeation, highlighting the critical factors influencing successful transdermal drug delivery. Additionally, we discuss the role of permeation enhancers, novel materials, and emerging technologies in optimizing TDDS performance.
