Abstract
A simple Stability indicating reverse phase HPLC method was developed for the determination of Valacyclovir present in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Valacyclovir represents a clear advance in the prevention and treatment of viral infection. The mobile phase was simple to prepare and economical. A Hypersil ODS C-18 (250 x 4.6 mm, packed with 5 micron) in an isocratic mode with mobile phase Acetonitrile: Phosphate buffer (pH- 3.6) (50:50%v/v) was used. The flow rate was 0.8ml/ min and effluent was monitored at 252 nm. The retention time was 2.842 min Valacyclovir. The linearity range was found to be 0.5 - 200 mg/ml. It was found that the percentage recovery values of pure drug from the pre-analyzed solutions of formulations were in between 98.1337- 101.4633. All the degradation products formed during forced decomposition studies were well separated from the analyte peak demonstrates that the developed method was specific and stability-indicating.
