Abstract
This paper presents an optimized control strategy for a multi-port electric vehicle (EV)
charging station designed to provide priority fast charging for emergency vehicles such as
ambulances and police vehicles. The proposed system employs a standalone solar
photovoltaic (PV) source integrated with bidirectional DC–DC converters to supply power
to multiple EV charging ports. A PWM-based PI charging controller is implemented within
a MATLAB function block to regulate the converter duty cycle and ensure smooth charging
operation. The controller dynamically adjusts PWM pulse widths based on different
charging conditions, enabling multiple charging modes including normal charging, slow
charging, fast charging, and reverse charging. A detailed MATLAB/Simulink model of the
proposed system is developed to analyse the charging behaviour under various operating
scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control strategy effectively
optimizes power distribution among the charging ports, improves charging stability, and
ensures reliable priority fast charging for emergency vehicles while maintaining efficient
utilization of available renewable energy resources.
