Abstract
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Bing AI has transformed student learning approaches. This study investigates (1) the level of dependency on AI tools and changes in students’ academic behavior, and (2) the perceived usefulness of these tools in improving academic outcomes. A structured questionnaire with 20 items was administered to 100 students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequencies, percentages, and Spearman’s correlation.
Results indicate that 48% of students reported moderate to high dependency on AI tools, and 52% reported changes in their study habits, including more efficient research and improved assignment completion. Regarding usefulness, 70% of students considered AI tools very or somewhat useful in enhancing learning, understanding concepts, and preparing for exams. Spearman correlation showed a positive association between dependency on AI tools and perceived usefulness (ρ = 0.42, p < .001). The findings suggest that while students rely on AI tools, they also perceive them as highly beneficial for academic learning.
