Abstract
Objective – To evaluate the epidemiological, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics of ectopic pregnancy (EP) in a Mauritanian hospital setting.
Patients and Methods – A retrospective descriptive study conducted on 50 cases of EP managed at CHZ between November 2022 and October 2024.
Results – A frequency of 0.34% was observed, predominantly affecting young patients (mean age 29 years), mostly nulliparous or pauciparous. The main symptoms were metrorrhagia (34%) and pelvic pain (30%). Diagnosis was based on transvaginal ultrasound (64% showing adnexal masses). Surgical treatment (laparotomy) was required in 70% of cases. No mortality was recorded.
Conclusion – Early diagnosis through ultrasound and beta-HCG testing is crucial to prevent complications. Expanding access to laparoscopy and promoting rapid management are essential.
