Abstract
Abstract
Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a serious and life threatening form/condition of cardiac failure that develops towards the later part during pregnancy or within few months postpartum. Its early diagnosis remains challenging because of symptoms like dyspnea, bipedal edema, fatigue mimics the physiological changes of pregnancy [and in other cardiopulmonary disease like pulmonary embolus or CAD]. Early diagnosis using biomarkers and imaging may help improve outcomes.
Objectives
To evaluate the diagnostic capability of BNP and Echocardiographic abnormalities for early detection of PPCM.
Methods
A crosssectional study was conducted at the first affiliated Hospital of xinjiang medical university between june 24 to September 2025. The study consisted of 100 female patient. Variables included age, bmi, blood pressure, BnP levels, Heart rate, echocardiography findings and confirmed diagnosis of PPCM. Statistical analysis included t-test, chi-square test, logistic regression and Recievers operating Characteristics.
Results:- BNP levels were significantly higher in PPCM patients than controls or non PPCM patient. Logistic regression demonstrated BNP as an independent Predictor (OR>0.3). ROC analysis yielded an AUC >0.85 for BNP, demonstrating strong diagnostic capability.
Conclusion
BNP levels and Echocardiographic findings provides powerful diagnostic indicators for early detection of PPCM. Combining these two diagnostics tools can provide early diagnosis and accuracy for timely intervention and can improve outcomes.
