Abstract
This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of school heads managing multigrade schools in the Maco South District, Division of Davao de Oro. Guided by Resiliency Theory, the research aimed to uncover the multidimensional roles of these leaders, delving into their experiences, struggles, coping mechanisms, and insights while navigating complex educational landscapes characterized by limited resources, multi-level instruction, and remote community contexts. Using in-depth interviews with six purposively selected school heads, the study revealed that these leaders confront a wide array of struggles, including resource constraints, dual teaching-administrative responsibilities, curriculum adaptation, and low community engagement. Despite these challenges, the school heads demonstrated resilience through adaptive leadership, professional collaboration, community involvement, and reflective practices. Their insights underscored the importance of context-based policy support, professional development tailored to multigrade education, and stronger stakeholder partnerships. The study contributes to the discourse on leadership in marginalized educational settings and offers recommendations for policy reform and capacity-building initiatives that support school heads in multigrade environments.
