Abstract
This study determined the role of school heads and the support system on the performance of student-athletes during the Citylympics of Bislig City Division. Specifically, it assessed the level of school heads’ roles in terms of planning, management, execution of sports activities, and incentives; examined the level of family and peer support received by student-athletes; determined the athletes’ performance; and investigated the significant relationships between the independent variables and student-athlete performance. The study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design involving 61 elementary student-athletes from public elementary schools in the Bislig 2B District, selected through complete enumeration. Standardized and adopted questionnaires were used to gather data, which were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, and Multiple Linear Regression. Findings revealed that the role of school heads was always observed, with incentives obtaining the highest rating, while family and peer support were also perceived at very high levels. The results further indicated that stronger school leadership practices and support systems were positively associated with better student-athlete performance during the Citylympics. The study concludes that effective leadership from school heads, coupled with strong family and peer support, contributes significantly to enhancing the performance of student-athletes. It recommends strengthening school-based sports leadership, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and sustaining comprehensive support systems to further improve athletic performance and holistic student development.
