Abstract
This phenomenological study described the hopes and aspirations of senior high school students with reading difficulties at Salvacion National High School. The primary goal of this study was to understand how these challenges impact their goals, highlight their resilience, and provide insights for creating supportive educational interventions. Using a qualitative case study approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with ten students identified as struggling readers as being in frustration level in the Phil-IRI assessment result. The findings revealed three central themes: (1) to graduate through hard work and perseverance, as students expressed a strong desire to complete their education and achieve professional aspirations despite their difficulties; (2) to overcome reading difficulty, highlighting importance of reading in communication, academic success and career opportunities; and (3) a call for more tailored educational interventions, such as reading programs and mentorship opportunities. These findings highlight the need of using inclusive and individualized solutions to meet the needs of students who struggle with reading. The study has important implications for educators, governments, and parents in creating a supportive atmosphere that matches with students' hopes and ambitions in life.
