Abstract
EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION INTEGRATION IN ESP ON THE ACADEMIC PEFORMANCE OF STUDENTS: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
This quasi-experimental study investigated the impact of integrating Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) into the Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) curriculum on the academic performance o Grade 10 students at Monkayo National High School during the 2024-2025 academic year. It aimed to assess the effectiveness of the TLE-integrated approach compared to traditional ESP instruction. The research involved a control group taught using conventional ESP methods and an experimental group exposed to TLE-integrated instruction. Quantitative data were gathered through pre- and posttests and statistical analyses – including paired and independent samples t-tests – were used to evaluate learning outcomes. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in both groups. However, the control group outperformed the experimental group, with a mean gain of 15.63 points compared to the latter 5.16 point increase. The control group achieved a mastery level, while the experimental group reached a nearing mastery level. These findings suggest that although traditional instruction remains effective, the integrated approach holds potential for long-term educational enhancement if supported by appropriate resources, teacher training and curriculum coherence. Implementation challenges, such as insufficient instructional materials, limited teacher preparedness, and a lack of systematic support, hindered the effectiveness of the integrated model. Despite these obstacles, the study observed positive trends in student performance within the experimental group, implying that with sustained investment and refinement, TLE-ESP integration can become a viable strategy for holistic education. Recommendations include capacity building for teachers, improved access to teaching resources, curriculum alignment, longitudinal studies, and pilot programs to guide future policy and practice.
