INFLUENCE OF TEACHER PERSONAL COMPETENCE AND SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

This study examined the influence of teachers’ personal competence and educational leadership practices on student achievement in Media and Information Literacy (MIL) among 205 Grade 11 students at New Bataan National High School during the school year 2025–2026. The research utilized a quantitative descriptive–correlational design to determine the relationships among the variables. Results revealed that the levels of teachers’ personal competence and school leadership were both rated high, indicating that teachers demonstrated strong media literacy skills, adaptability, ethical responsibility, and continuous learning, while school heads exhibited effective leadership in vision-setting, data-based planning, teamwork, and problem-solving. Moreover, student achievement in MIL was found to be very satisfactory based on the results of the first quarter examination. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between teachers’ personal competence and student achievement, and between school leadership and student achievement. Multiple regression analysis further identified no indicators in teacher competence and school leadership that significantly predicted student achievement in MIL. Based on the findings, it is recommended that schools continue to strengthen teacher training on digital literacy and enhance leadership programs that promote collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and instructional innovation to improve MIL learning outcomes.
