Abstract
The rapid growth of the automobile industry has increased the need for secure, transparent, and reliable vehicle information management systems. Traditional centralized vehicle record systems are vulnerable to data manipulation, fake servicing records, forged owner-ship details, odometer fraud, and unauthorized modifications, especially in the used vehicle market. Blockchain technology provides an effective solution by offering decentralization, immutability, transparency, and secure data sharing without relying on third parties. This review paper presents a comprehensive study of blockchain-enabled vehicle data tracking systems and analyzes various research contributions, methodologies, and applications in the automotive sector. The paper reviews blockchain-based systems for vehicle lifecycle management, including ownership tracking, servicing history, accident reports, insurance data, and mileage monitoring. It also discusses the role of Ethereum blockchain, smart contracts, decentralized storage, and IoT integration in improving security, trust, and op-erational efficiency. Furthermore, the paper identifies key challenges such as scalability issues, high transaction costs, storage overhead, and privacy concerns. Based on the liter-ature analysis, the study concludes that blockchain technology has significant potential to transform vehicle information systems by ensuring tamper-proof records, enhanced trans-parency, and secure vehicle data management for future intelligent transportation systems.
