Abstract
Prosopagnosia, commonly known as “face blindness” is a neurocognitive condition characterized by a substantial impairment in facial recognition, impacting social interaction and daily life. This article offers a comprehensive introduction to this often-under recognized disorder, tracing its historical recognition and evolution of understanding. It delineates the diverse symptomatic presentations, ranging from subtle difficulties in recognition acquaintances to a complete inability to identify even familiar individuals.Furthermore, the article explores current diagnostic methodologies, encompassing behavioural assessments ,neuropsychological evaluations, and the role of neuroimaging in identifying neural correlates associated with prosopagnosia .While a definitive cure remains elusive ,the paper outlines existing compensatory strategies employed by individual with the condition and discusses promising emerging therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation approaches currently under investigation. Finally, the article examine future research directions, including genetic studies ,neurostimulation techniques, and the development of advanced assistive technologies, highlighting the ongoing efforts to improve diagnosis ,understanding, and support for individuals living with prosopagnosia. Increased awareness and continued research hold significant promise for enhancing the quality of life for those affected by this challenging condition.
