Assessment of the Quality of Healthcare Services at Sabrata Teaching Hospital in Libya from the Perspective of Patients

This study evaluates the quality of healthcare services at Sabratha Teaching Hospital in Libya from the perspective of inpatients. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the research aims to assess the overall level of healthcare quality at the hospital. The study population consisted of inpatients at Sabratha Teaching Hospital, with a simple random sample of 100 patients selected. Out of the 100 distributed questionnaires, 61 were retrieved, while 39 were not returned due to various reasons, including patient unwillingness to participate, hospital discharge, and questionnaire loss. The study aimed to assess the quality of healthcare services from the inpatients' perspective, clarify the theoretical concepts of healthcare quality and its key dimensions, gather patient feedback to establish appropriate evaluation criteria for public healthcare institutions in Libya, and provide findings that can help address challenges hindering the delivery of high-quality healthcare services. The results revealed that 75.4% of respondents were female, 34.4% were under 30 years old, 42.6% held a university degree, 47.5% were housewives, and 45.9% resided in Sabratha city. Additionally, 54.1% of the patients were admitted to the internal medicine department. The study found high-quality services in organizational services, nursing care, professional medical services, and behavioral care. However, accommodation services were identified as an area of concern. To enhance service quality, the study recommends improving organizational services by optimizing patient reception, treatment processes, appointment scheduling, and hospital signage. Nursing care should focus on providing greater patient attention and support. Behavioral care improvements should ensure that staff maintain patient confidentiality and fulfill their professional responsibilities. Additionally, accommodation services should be upgraded by enhancing heating, cooling, electricity, and water supply in patient rooms, providing well-maintained furniture, ensuring adequate food quality, and improving room and bathroom cleanliness, lighting, ventilation, and noise control. These recommendations aim to enhance healthcare service quality and contribute to better patient experiences in public hospitals across Libya.
