Abstract
This literature review examines the complexities of tacrolimus therapy in kidney transplantation, particularly focusing on the implications of genetic variations that influence drug metabolism. Tacrolimus, a vital calcineurin inhibitor in immunosuppressive regimens, is essential for preventing organ rejection but poses dosing challenges, especially in patients with genetic predispositions or those requiring lower doses due to adverse effects. By synthesizing current research findings, this review highlights the significance of personalized medicine approaches in optimizing tacrolimus dosing and enhancing treatment outcomes for kidney transplant recipients. It underscores the need for further investigation into the genetic factors affecting drug efficacy and safety, as well as innovative strategies to tailor therapy for this vulnerable population.
