“A CRITICAL REVIEW OF SANDHIGATA VATA IN RELATION TO OSTEOARTHRITIS: ETIOPATHOGENESIS AND MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVES”

Sandhigata Vata is a common Vatavyadhi described in Ayurveda, primarily affecting joints and leading to pain, stiffness, and restricted movement. It closely resembles osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disorder that is prevalent in the aging population. The aim of this study is to critically analyze Sandhigata Vata in relation to osteoarthritis with emphasis on etiopathogenesis, clinical features, and management. Classical Ayurvedic texts and modern medical literature were reviewed to establish correlation between Sandhigata Vata and osteoarthritis. Clinical features of Sandhigata Vata show strong similarity with osteoarthritis, including pain, crepitus, swelling, and restricted mobility. Ayurveda provides a holistic approach for the management of degenerative joint disorders and can be effectively integrated with modern treatment strategies.
