Abstract
Low back pain affects approximately 60-85% of adults during some point of their life and 10% of this is because of Lumbar Spondylosis (LS). Katishoola is the one among the Vatavyadhi is produced by the vitiated Vata Dosha. Ayurvedic treatment modalities plays an effective role to solve such worries but recurrence and duration of the treatment are the main problems. In this situation, panchakarma detoxification modality of treatment will plays an important role in management of katiashrita vata, a lumbar spondylosis. Various treatment modalities like snehan, swedan, basti etc. are mentioned for vata vyadhi. According to the Ayurveda, Shoola (pain) occurs due to vitiation of Vata Dosha. Vata Dosha is vitiated by Srotas Awarodhata (obstructions of channels) and Dhathu Kshaya (depletion of tissues/malnutrition). In Kati Shoola, Apana Vayu is mainly involved. So, the aim of the treatment is to pacify vitiated Vata Dosha, especially Apana Vayu. Basti is mainly indicated in vata predominant diseases.
