Abstract
Many names of localities in Madagascar recall the words "stone or rock" whose meaning in Malagasy is “vato" (Vatomandry, Ambatobe, Ambatolampy, Ambatomainty, Ambatonilita, Ambatofinandrahana, Ambatondradama .Ambatomitsangana ..) These names are evocative and / or related to an event. In his speeches, his proverbs, his habits and customs, his beliefs the malagasy have often referred to the "vato" ("Vato nasondrotry ny tany", "Vato namelan-kafatra", "Nitady toko ka sendra vato", "Vato kiboribory", "Vatolahy", " Ambato bevohoka "..). From these facts and observations that we want to emit in this communication, the concept "Geoculture", the link and the meaning of this culture on stones or rocks with the geosciences. But in Madagascar this culture on stones or rocks change according to ethnicity, regions, events or circumstances and history
