Abstract
Due to rapid growth in automobile industry and increase in the use of vehicles, the production of tyres is also increased which in turn generates waste /discarded/ scrap tyres. Most waste tyres are buried in the landfills and only fewer are used as fuel or as raw materials for the manufacture of rubber goods. Due to the health and environmental risks presented from waste tyres as well as the scarcity and cost of natural mineral aggregate, utilization of crumb rubber in concrete as a partial replacement of its mineral aggregates for the production of building material in construction industry would help to preserve the natural recourses and also maintain ecological balance. It is with this intension, an investigation is proposed to be conducted by using crumb rubber as replacement of fine aggregate (sand) in cement
