Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool for solving complex problems in civil engineering by improving prediction accuracy, decision-making, and optimization of engineering processes. The primary objective of this study is to explore the applications of AI techniques in civil engineering with a focus on predicting material physical properties, structural performance, and construction management efficiency. In particular, AI models such as Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic and Machine Learning algorithms are examined for their capability to model nonlinear relationships in engineering data.
The methodology involves collecting experimental and field data related to civil engineering parameters, such as mix proportions, curing conditions, compressive strength of ready mix concrete and material properties. The dataset is preprocessed and divided into training, testing, and validation subsets. AI models are then developed and trained to identify patterns and relationships among the input variables. Performance evaluation is conducted using statistical indicators such as correlation coefficient, mean square error, mean relative error, mean absolute error and prediction accuracy to assess model reliability.
Key findings indicate that AI-based models significantly enhance prediction capability compared to traditional empirical methods. For instance, AI techniques can effectively predict compressive strength of ready mix concrete, optimize mix design and support structural health monitoring. These models are capable of handling large datasets and capturing complex nonlinear interactions viz a viz relationship among variables, resulting in more reliable and efficient engineering solutions.
In conclusion, the integration of AI techniques in civil engineering provides a promising approach for improving analysis, design and construction processes. The adoption of AI-based models can support engineers in making accurate predictions, reducing experimental costs, and enhancing overall project performance. Therefore, AI has the potential to transform conventional civil engineering practices and contribute to the development of smarter and more sustainable infrastructure systems.
