Abstract
The supplementary energy dissipation represents an efficient technique for the seismic protection of structural system. This dissipation of such external energy ultimately reduces the response of the structure so that the structure remains in elastic range. This can be achieved by providing supplementary energy dissipating devices like dampers, amount of energy dissipates by these dampers is directly dependent on the material used and geometry of dampers. Metallic dampers provide the additional damping and stiffness to the structure; hence such devices are generally referred as ADAS devices. Metallic dampers dissipate the seismic energy through the inelastic deformation of material. metallic dampers have been studied and incorporated in to the structure.work deals with analyzing the structure with and without dampers, the response quantities such as maximum displacement, max interstory drift, axial force, shear force and bending moment has been compared For this time history of two earthquake has been taken and the response quantities has compared in SAAP-2000. The result obtained after the analysis shows that the response quantities are reduced significantly and it has been concluded that, these devices are very much effective to dissipate the external energy.
