Abstract
The present experimental work deals with the effect of colloidal nano-silica on mechanical properties of concrete containing recycled coarse aggregate using five series of concrete mixes: the first is the control mix, containing of natural aggregates with no nano silica. In second, third , fourth and fifth series containing 20%, 40%, 60% and 100% (by weight) natural coarse aggregate are replaced by RCA with 2% and 4% nano-silica repectively. Compressive strength and split tensile strength of all concrete mixes are evaluated after 7 and 28 days of water curing. Addition of nano-silica is found to significantly improve mechanical properties of concrete mixes as compared with control mix.
