Abstract
One of the most prevalent endocrine conditions affecting women of reproductive age is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), sometimes referred to as Stein-Leventhal syndrome(1). Hyperandrogenism, anovulation, and polycystic ovaries detected on USG are its defining characteristics. Clinical manifestations include complicated Amenorrhoea or Oligomenorrhea, hirsutism, acne, infertility, etc. Genetic, hormonal, metabolic, and behavioural factors are all part of its complex aetiology. There is substantial evidence that managing PCOS can be achieved with a healthy diet and lifestyle changes, such as weight loss, low glycemic index meals, and frequent exercise. Although Ayurveda does not specifically describe it, we may correlate it with a number of conditions, such as Vandhya Yonivyapada, Arajaska Yonivyapada, Artava Kshaya, Nastartava, Pushpaghni Jataharini, etc. By evaluating the patient's Dosha, Dushya, Agni, Ama, and Prakruti, treatment can be arranged. Panchakarma, a variety of Ayurvedic herbal and mineral medicines, and dietary and lifestyle changes can all be used to plan an Ayurvedic treatment. The purpose of this review study is to assess the effectiveness of Ayurvedic concepts and treatments as well as the role that nutrition and lifestyle play in the pathogenesis and treatment of PCOS.
