Abstract
Women are likely to suffer from sleep disorders more in comparison to men during menopause and with advancing age. Sleep disorder or insomnia largely remains a clinical diagnosis based on the subjective complaints of patients. With the changes in biological life cycles and the extreme hormonal changes and with advancing age, women are at an increased risk for sleep disturbances such as insomnia, poor sleep quality and sleep deprivation. There is emerging evidence that menopause associate hormone loss contributes to this elevated risk of sleep disorders, but age is also an important factor. The incidence increases from 35%-60% at postmenopause. Difficulty in sleeping has been reported in 38% of the elderly women's and age adjusted rates have been reported. The Menopausal transition is associated with rise in insomnia related symptoms, particularly difficulty in staying sleep, which has negative impact on the quality of life. In modern science primary line of treatment is hormone replacement therapy but several complications as endometrial cancer, breast cancer, venous thromboembolic disease, coronary artery disease, obesity etc. According to Ayurveda this condition is called as Rajo Nivrutti avastha and Jarapakva Avashta and dhatukshay lakshanas.so, management of insomnia in the early stage is a very important need. Through Ayurveda we can pacify the Rajonivrutti lakshanas such as nidranash due to vatavriddhi. Abhyang specifies it by vata shamana, majja dhatu poshan. Tila Tail abhyang is cost effective treatment with very less complications may be occur. Tila Taila is vatshamak and can be easily available for abhyang so the selection of this topic entitled "The study of Efficacy of Tila Taila Abhyanga in Menopausal Women with special reference to Nidranash".
