Abstract
Ahara (eating), Nidra (sleep), and Abhrahmacharaya (non-celibacy) according to Acharya Vagbhata, maintain the body continuously in the same way as the house (is maintained) by the subpillars (Trayo-Upsthambha). Nidra is commonly acknowledged as essential for maintaining both physical and emotional well-being. Ayurvedic interventions provide a holistic approach to the treatment of sleep disorders and have the potential to correct underlying imbalances in both the body and the mind. Nidranasha (insomnia) is not defined as an independent disease in classical texts but is associated with Vataja Nanatmaka Vikara, Vataj Jwara, and psychological disorders. Nasya gives beneficial results, such as decreasing vata dosha, lightness in head, refreshing sleep, cheerful mind, improvement in function of sense organs and normalization of metabolic activity, etc. Aggravated Vata Dosha, socio-psychological stressors, or Manasika Bhavas such as Chinta and Bhaya, contribute significantly to its pathogenesis. Modern lifestyle pressures, including sleep deprivation, stress, and erratic routines, have led to a sharp rise in insomnia, which is closely linked to cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurological disorders.
