Abstract
This research investigates the impact of Christian faith on local patriotism and social commitment among the faithful of the FJKM Anosizato Hebrona Church in Madagascar, a nation where poverty affects more than 80% of the population. In a society facing moral decline, social fragmentation, and rising individualism, the Church assumes a significant role in restoring cohesion, fostering solidarity, and strengthening civic responsibility. The study adopts a conceptual framework linking the dynamics of faith—encompassing personal, social, and cultural dimensions—to the concept of local patriotism, defined as emotional attachment and loyalty to one’s community. Drawing from theological and sociological literature, the research underscores that Christian values such as compassion, justice, service, and mutual respect serve as catalysts for civic engagement and national cohesion. An empirical survey conducted among 200 members of the congregation assesses their adherence to Christian values, frequency of religious practices, and participation in community initiatives. Statistical analysis, including Chi-square tests, reveals a strong positive correlation between high adherence to Christian values and active, systematic participation in church-led social activities. Individuals with greater commitment to these values are more likely to engage in volunteer work, humanitarian projects, and community development programs. The findings demonstrate that integrating theological-patristic principles into daily life reinforces motivation for local patriotism, fostering both spiritual and societal development. The study concludes that the Church’s role extends beyond spiritual guidance, serving as a pivotal institution for cultivating civic responsibility, social solidarity, and a shared sense of belonging. These insights carry implications for religious practice, pastoral strategies, and community empowerment in contexts marked by socio-economic challenges.
