Abstract
The primary purpose of this study was to understand the experiences, challenges, coping mechanisms and suggestions among senior high school students in writing research papers in Tagum Doctors College Inc. employing qualitative phenomenological approach among ten senior high school students, in-depth interviews were conducted by the researcher, and the data were examined through thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the experiences of the students in writing research paper; it must be catchy, quite tricky, make it sense and readable, and need understanding and concise writing. The challenges encountered by students in writing research paper are struggles to start the introduction, struggles on the long process, understanding on results gathered and feeling confused what to include. The coping mechanisms utilized by the students in writing research papers include using technology and books to research, collaborating with groupmates, using online tools to organize data and taking advice from professionals. The findings also revealed suggestions for senior high school students to improve the research paper writing process are teachers should teach research writing step by step, access online tutorials and workshops, give clear instructions, and start early. Although, there were still numerous strategies usen in writing research papers, students could still encounter challenges in making such. Thus, this paper concluded with the recommendation that schools are encouraged to prioritize the research skills development of the students and provide them with sufficient time and resources necessary to acquire research abilities and knowledge to address the gap in writing research papers.
