TAMAYO Cooperatives are key drivers of inclusive economic growth and social well-being, emphasizing collective benefit over profit. In the Philippines, their financial sustainability is increasingly challenged by volatile economic conditions, outdated systems, client-relationship issues, regulatory complexities, and evolving market dynamics. This study explores the financial management challenges faced by cooperatives under R.A. 9520 and their implications for resilience and long-term viability. Findings show that while 83% of cooperatives are highly capitalized and 85% have operated for over a decade, they face moderate yet ongoing challenges, particularly during economic downturns. Portfolio Quality is most affected due to loan defaults and weak credit evaluation practices. Despite these, cooperatives exhibit strong mitigation efforts through credit monitoring, financial literacy programs, and adaptive risk planning. The study recommends further investments in governance, innovation, and member education—especially in strengthening credit systems and adopting digital tools—to ensure sustainability.
