Abstract
This study investigates the impact of nurse shift length on productivity and efficiency in hospital settings across three provincial government hospitals in Agusan del Sur: Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital, Valentina Galido Plaza Memorial Hospital (VGPMH), and Talacogon District Hospital (TDH). A total of 130 nurses working 8-hour or 12-hour shifts were surveyed to assess their performance based on indicators such as task completion rate, quality patient care, response time, and workload management. Descriptive statistics summarized the demographic profile and performance scores, while independent samples t-tests were conducted to determine whether the differences between shift types were statistically significant. Results revealed that nurses working 12-hour shifts achieved significantly higher productivity and efficiency scores compared to those on 8-hour shifts. The findings offer empirical evidence supporting the consideration of extended shift schedules in provincial hospitals, while highlighting the need for balanced workload management and health monitoring policies to ensure nurse well-being and sustained patient care quality.
