Abstract
It has become imperative to develop more robust cloud-based platforms with great capabilities to manage the sheer amount of data generated by devices that are interconnected. The review paper provides a detailed analysis of current cloud-based IoT platforms, focusing on three critical dimensions: scalability, interoperability, and data analytics capabilities. Scalability is studied by the resource allocation ability of the system and its capability to support a growing number of devices without losing performance. The interoperability is explored as technical, semantic, and organizational compatibility, highlighting challenges and solutions that facilitate communication among diverse IoT devices. In addition, it covers the data analytics capabilities of these platforms with emphasis on real-time, predictive, and prescriptive analytics as necessary to extract actionable insights from IoT data. With a synthesis of the most recent developments and trends in these areas, this review should offer insights to researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders of the IoT ecosystem to facilitate further work toward the design of more efficient and integrated cloud-based IoT solutions.
