Abstract

Women play a significant and crucial role in agricultural development and allied fields. The nature and extent of women's involvement in agriculture varies greatly from region to region. But regardless of these variations, women are actively involved in various agricultural activities. Women's participation in agriculture contributes to economic empowerment. It provides them with opportunities to earn income, which can be vital for their families' financial stability. Women farmers in India work about 3,300 hours per crop season when fields are sown and harvested, more than double the 1,860 hours their male counterparts put in. Despite this, the government continues to undervalue and ignore their efforts to feed their families and the country. In India, one-third of female farmers work unpaid on family farms owned by their parents, husbands, or in-laws. Indian women own only 12.8 per cent of the land in the country. Recognizing and supporting the contributions of women in agriculture is crucial for the overall progress of the agricultural sector and the well-being of rural communities in India.
