Abstract
The major objective of this paper is to construct a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to automate the
detection of cracks on metal surfaces. The goal is to replace labor-intensive and prone to error manual
inspection methods with a deep learning system that is accurate and efficient. The project comprises
designing an appropriate CNN architecture, preparing the data, compiling a substantial number of images
of metal surfaces, and training the model. Performance is assessed using F1-score, accuracy, precision,
recall, and an extra testing dataset. If carried out properly, this should shorten inspection times, boost
security, and improve industrial maintenance and infrastructure safety using computer vision.
