Abstract

With the advent of romanticism English literature witnessed a new vogue of poetry. It was not just a challenge to conventional poetry but also liberalism in literature. Although the seeds of romanticism were sown by pre-romantics like William Black, Thomas Gray, Robert Blair, Thomas pine, Thomas Jefferson, Edward Young etc. but real shackles were undoubtedly broken by WORDSWORTH and his associates in which literature was reeling. Romanticists did a tremendous job by freeing the literature semantically as well as syntactically. Wordsworth’s "Solitary Reaper", Shelly’s, “Queen Mab", Keats' "La Balle Dam Sans Mercy" clearly demonstrate that how literature was given a new color and timbre.
