Abstract
Animal body temperature is an important phenotype for identification of disease and heat stress in livestock. Current climate models project that temperatures will increase across the world, influencing both local and global agriculture. Cattles that are exposed to high ambient temperatures experience heat stress and their physiology, reproductive function and performance are compromised. Body temperature is a reliable measure of heat stress and hence a good indicator of an animal's health and well-being. In the dairy industry, the cattle dairy temperature and humidity are measured and appropriate measures are implemented so that the impact of temperature and humidity can be maintained constant. The U.S department of agriculture estimates nearly 2.4 billion a year in losses from animal illness that lead to death can be prevented by maintaining constant temperature and humidity in cattle diaries. We will use the latest and advanced IoT devices like raspberry pi 3 to record and process cattle THI data to maintain constant range to increase the yield with high quality of milk and prevent cattle from death. The proposed system will measure cattle rectal temperature, heart rate and environmental data like temperature and humidity and also reduce heat stress using Counter Measures consisting of ultrasound water atomizer and fan.
