Abstract
A wide variety of materials used in road construction i.e. soil, coarse aggregates, binders, bituminous materials, cement and miscellaneous for improved road performance under heavy traffic conditions. A number of literature has been reviewed and ultimately the coconut shell has been highlighted for a variety of function such as landfill, light weight concrete and structural concrete and used in road construction. This study provides a detailed examination of the application of the coconut shell into structural concrete and used to partially replace the coarse aggregates with the coconut shell in the construction of roads, to minimize the use of natural aggregates. The experiments has been done in this project has considered 7 days and 28 days compressive strength of concrete using coconut shell for rigid pavements and various tests are performed for flexible pavement with partial replacement of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The tests which are performed for the flexible pavement are los abrasion test which are used for determining the hardness of an aggregate, impact test which are used for determining the toughness of an aggregate and the crushing strength test which are used for check the crushing strength of an aggregate.
