Abstract
Ni2+, Cu2+, Pd2+ and Pt2+ complexes of of 2,2'-(butane-2,3-diylidene)bis(hydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H2L) were prepared and fully characterized. The characterization of the prepared compounds were carried out analytical-ly and spectrally using elemental and thermal analyses, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass and electronic absorp-tion spectra as well as magnetic and molar conductance measurements.The analytical data revesled that the complexes formed in 1:1 molar ratio and all complexes are non-electrolyte. The spectral data showed that the of 2,2'-(butane-2,3-diylidene)bis(hydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H2L) behaved as a dibasic tetradentate chelator bonded with the metal ions via thiol sulphur atoms and azomethine nitrogen atoms adopting a square planar geometry for Ni2+ , Pd2+ and Pt2+ complexes, while Cu2+ complex adopts a distorted octahedral geometry structure. The thermal analysis showed that the ligand was stable up to 191C while Ni2+, Pd2+ and Pt2+ com-plexes were stable up to temperatures range from 235-320 C and decomposed in one step leading to the for-mation metal oxide or metal with carbon.
