Abstract
Infrastructure projects such as highways, railways, reservoirs and landfills require a great deal of soil material. In urban areas, the borrowing district is not easily accessible, so you need to pull it from a long distance. Quite often, large areas are covered with plastics and extensible soils and are not suitable for such purposes. Extensive laboratory / field experiments have been conducted by various researchers and have shown promising results in applying expandable soil after stabilization with additives such as sand, silt, lime, fly ash, and the like. Fly ash is freely available and can be used to stabilize inflatable soils for various applications near thermal power plants. This paper describes a study carried out to identify changes in the properties of the soil that fly ash expands at various ratios. Both laboratory and field tests were performed and the results were reported in this white paper. One of the major challenges in field application is the complete mixing of the two materials (expandable soil and fly ash) at the required rate to form a homogeneous mass. This paper describes how these materials are placed on layers of the required thickness and adopted to manipulate the "Disc Harrow". A testbed of 30m in length and 0.6m in height was successfully constructed and tested to demonstrate suitability for embankment, ash drying, and low fill area filling.
