Abstract
Abstract Industrial sheds in high wind speed areas require strong and efficient structural design. This paper presents the structural analysis and design of a pre-engineered building (PEB) industrial shed (30 m span × 60 m length × 8 m height) for Ajmer, Rajasthan, which falls under Wind Zone IV (basic wind speed 47 m/s). The structure is designed as per Indian Standards IS 800:2007 and IS 875 (Part 3):2015. Wind load calculations show a design wind pressure of 1.33 kN/m². The PEB design uses tapered steel sections that vary in depth from 500 mm at the eave to 250 mm at the column base. Results show that the PEB design saves 49% steel (59.6 tons vs 117.9 tons) and 47% cost (81 lakhs vs 155 lakhs) compared to conventional hot-rolled steel design. Maximum stress ratio is 0.86 (safe) and maximum deflection is 42.1 mm (within L/150 limit). The study concludes that PEBs are highly suitable for high wind zones.
