Abstract
In present era of rapid urbanization and vertical infrastructure development, the construction of multi-storey building has increased significantly due to growing population and limited land availability. As the height of building increases, their structure behaviour becomes more complex and sensitive to lateral forces such as wind and earthquake loads. Therefore, accurate structural analysis is essential to ensure safety, stability and serviceability. In order to compete in ever growing competent market, it is very important for structural engineer to save time, as a sequel to this an attempt is made to analyse and design a multi-storeyed building by using ETABS software.
The study focuses on static and dynamic analysis of multi-storey reinforced concrete building using ETABS software. The building is modelled by defining appropriate material properties, sectional properties, support conditions, and load combinations as per relevant Indian standard coded such as IS 875 and IS 1893. Static analysis is performed to evaluate the effect of dead load, live load and wind load on the structure. Parameter such as bending moment, shear force, axial force, storey displacement, and reaction are obtained and analysed.
However, static analysis alone is not sufficient to predict the realistic of tall buildings under seismic forces. Since India lies in multiple seismic zone (III, IV and V), dynamic analysis becomes as crucial for structural safety. In this study, dynamic analysis is carried out using the Response spectrum method to assess seismic performance. Important parameters such as natural time period, mode shapes, base shear and storey drift are evaluated to understand the vibration characteristics of the building.
