Voices of Resilience: A Multiple Case Study on the Learning Journey of ALS Students

This study examined the lived experiences of Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners in Loreto District, Agusan del Sur, during the School Year 2025–2026. Using a qualitative multiple case study design, six purposively selected learners with diverse backgrounds were interviewed to explore their experiences, challenges, coping mechanisms, and insights. Data were analyzed through thematic and cross-case analysis. Findings revealed that ALS serves as a flexible and inclusive educational pathway that enables marginalized learners to continue their education despite socioeconomic and personal barriers. Participants encountered challenges such as poverty, financial constraints, time limitations, role conflict, and technological and accessibility issues. Despite these difficulties, learners demonstrated strong resilience by employing coping strategies such as time management, self-discipline, independent learning, and seeking support from family, peers, and teachers. The study further highlighted that ALS fosters empowerment, self-confidence, and hope for a better future. Learners viewed education as a means for personal growth and socio-economic advancement. Overall, the findings emphasize the importance of strengthening support systems and enhancing ALS implementation to better address the needs of diverse learners.
