INVOLVEMENT OF IP PARENTS IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: THROUGH THE LENS OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS

This research explored and investigated the experience, challenges, coping mechanism, strategies and insights among six school heads in indigenous people school. In Lapaz district, Division of Agusan del Sur. This study employed phenomenological research design. The finding revealed that informants experienced problem on parental involvement in school. The themes were low parental involvement due to economic barriers, low parents’ participation due to household responsibilities, managing low parent engagement with patience and low participation during meetings and labor related activities. The study also revealed that high attendance during food-related or benefit-based activities was observed. While low participation during meetings. Initiatives or programs undertaken to promote parental engagement were school-based gulayan and feeding program, home visits, joining community meetings and reward system. Parents were communicated using social media to reach out parents and home visitation helps information to reach everyone. Most reasons of parents make against attending school activities were due to economic crises, lack of interest in education, distance and childcare duties, livelihood and responsibilities. It was concluded that the study of Parental involvement problem among school heads in an indigenous people schools revealed that parental participation continues to be the main support of the school system and at the same time has a strong impact on the children's academic performance, motivation, and overall development. The continual parental involvement is not just a factor that helps but, rather, an integral part of the school success. The partnership of schools and families brings a stronger support, identity, and motivation to the students.
