NAVIGATING DISCORD: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY OF SCHOOL HEADS CONFLICT MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

This study investigated the conflict management strategies of school heads. This study ascertained the experiences, challenges and strategies of school heads of eight schools of Monkayo East District namely; Boay Elementary School, Macopa Elementary School, Mamonga Elementary School, Pasian Elementary School, Pilar Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Tubo-Tubo Elementary School and Ulip Elementary as they experienced implementing conflict management strategies toward their teachers. In the course of the study, those experiences, challenges and strategies of eight school heads were identified. Using qualitative phenomenological research design, analysis of data revealed that conflict management strategies could resolved conflict of teachers but it is not as easy task for the school heads. The data revealed that school heads addressed the challenges encountered in the in the implementation of conflict management strategies through equipping teachers on knowledge and skills on conflict resolution, proper imposition of code of ethical standard and prioritize solving the disputes in the learning environment. Indeed, the data revealed further that the strategies of the school heads equip themselves on skills on the conflict resolution to make them effective implementation of conflict management. As a result, the school heads and teachers realized that conflict management is very important because it promotes harmony, teamwork for effective delivery of learning toward the students.
