PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES AS PREDICTORS OF INDIGENOUS LEARNERS’ ACADEMIC MOTIVATION

This study was conducted to understand the factors influencing the academic motivation of Indigenous learners, particularly Mandaya students at Langgawisan National High School. It aimed to determine whether parental involvement and school counseling services predict the academic motivation of Indigenous learners. The study employed a quantitative approach using a descriptive-correlational research design. It was conducted among 207 Indigenous learner-respondents at Langgawisan National High School in Maragusan, Davao de Oro. Adapted survey questionnaires were utilized to gather data, while mean and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation were used for analysis. Findings revealed that parental involvement and school counseling services were evident among Mandaya learners, while academic motivation was found to be very high. The study further found significant positive relationships between parental involvement, school counseling services, and learners’ academic motivation. The study concluded that active parental involvement and effective school counseling services contribute positively to strengthening the academic motivation of Indigenous Mandaya learners. It is recommended that schools and stakeholders continue implementing culturally responsive programs that support Indigenous learners
