INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL LEADERSHIP PRACTICES AND TEACHER SUPPORT ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

Concerns relating to poor student engagement are faced by teachers across the globe. Despite the prevalence of existing studies, there is still a gap in our understanding of this pressing issue. Hence, this study examined the relationship between school leadership, teacher support, and student engagement. Using a quantitative descriptive-correlational design, this study surveyed the 24 teachers and 287 students, selected through universal sampling. Adapted questionnaires were also used to collect data. However, the results revealed no significant relationship. Based on the statistics between school leadership and student engagement (r = -0.157, p = 0.465), as well as the teacher support and student engagement (r = -0.104, p = 0.630). Thus, the findings suggest that despite the prevalence of school leadership and teacher support, their direct relationship with student engagement is not statistically significant. Despite this, the findings further emphasize that effective leadership and teacher support remain important for ensuring student engagement. Thus, this study suggests further investigation into other variables that may significantly influence student engagement.
