Abstract
Background: Diarrhoea remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children under five years of age, particularly in developing nations. Ayurveda offers holistic alternatives with minimal adverse effects. Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Kamalkesaradi Yoga — a classical Ayurvedic formulation documented in Bharat Bhaishajya Ratnakar — in the management of Balaatisara (paediatric diarrhoea). Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 70 paediatric patients aged 5–8 years presenting with Atisara at the OPD, Saraswati Ayurved Hospital and Medical College, Gharaun, Punjab. Patients received Kamalkesaradi Yoga in Leha Kalpana (linctus) form for 7 days, with a 7-day follow-up. Subjective and objective parameters were assessed at baseline and on Days 1, 3, 7, and 14. Results: Significant improvement was observed across all parameters. Improvement scores ranged from 65.65% (vomiting) to 81.15% (perianal rashes). Stool frequency, consistency, colour, and foul smell all demonstrated progressive normalization (p<0.01). Conclusion: Kamalkesaradi Yoga is a safe, effective, and well-tolerated Ayurvedic intervention for paediatric diarrhoea, warranting its integration into evidence-based paediatric healthcare.
