Abstract
Substance abuse among adolescents has emerged as a major public health and social concern, particularly in regions vulnerable to drug trafficking and socio-political instability. The present study aimed to assess the level of substance abuse awareness among higher secondary school students in Imphal West District, Manipur. The study examined overall awareness levels and compared awareness across gender and type of institution. Findings revealed that students possessed a moderate level of awareness regarding substance abuse, with significant variations observed between certain groups. The study highlights the urgent need for systematic school-based awareness programmes and coordinated efforts involving parents, teachers, and community stakeholders. The findings have important implications for educational planning and preventive interventions aimed at reducing substance abuse among adolescents.
